We have been watching the mama bird build a little nest, sit on her eggs and now the eggs have hatched! We got a ladder and did a little nature study! I had no ideas that baby birds are so ugly! I let each child take a turn looking and of course we snapped a few pictures for the blog! The mother bird sat on a nearby branch and watched. I think she was nervous about her babies so we tried to be quick.
They appeared this morning and then left before we could get a picture. They flew back in hours later. I have never seen Blue Jays actually eat at the bird feeder so this was exciting. It was a pair of them and they pretty much stayed together. I wonder why we are getting such a variation of birds in the past two days?
Ok, it is exciting to me. MULCH! Our front needed new mulch but as you know, that can be costly. We went to Agway for something else and there was a good deal on bags of mulch. We took at guess at how much we needed. We came home and put it in ourselves. It cost us about $90 to do the whole front, which is more in our budget than what those "mulch by the yard" big pile costs.
I'm not seeing too much action outside in the backyard. We get a few birds and that is about it. Hopefully, snow will bring something a little more exciting!

Ok, we didn't grow the watermelon in our backyard or anything really exciting like that (I bought it at Sam's Club) but I made something cute out of some nature. That counts, right?
They managed to survive the deer having the munchies. I'm so excited!
