Our Learning Space

I tend to be a bit disorganized (ssshhh, don't tell anyone) so we often do our schoolwork around the house.  I do, however, have a table and chairs for us to do more "academic" subjects. Img_3968_1

I also use these mats for the floor when we do things that are more open-ended and free.  This way, we can sit on the floor in a designated space and the baby can roll around and eat her feet or I can put her on my lap.  I have one packages already on the living room floor and this package is waiting to be opened and used too!

Here is the bookshelf that holds all of the school related books.  Most are used directly for the kids but some are my "teacher" resources.

And once again, you learn things the hard way.  Here are my supply cabinets with LOCKS on them.  There is really nothing in there that I'd want the kids to get into unless I'm there with them.  I have two cabinets and they are made by RubberMade.  I think I got them in Target for about $100.  I love them because they can be locked!

We do a lot of Unit Studies using Five in a Row.  We also use a very Charlotte Mason appraoch.  In other words, we have a lot of library books checked out at all times.  I'm trying to keep the books organized by all the different topics that we are studying.  I decided to use some pretty baskets to put each "subject" in.  I have to admit, it is working much better than running around the house searching for books in a panic (not that I ever have that happen).

Here are our maps that we use to place our story disks.  In case you are not familiar, each story get a little disk that represents the story.  You place the disk where the story takes place.  These maps are brand new!  Our other maps got very wrinkled in the move and it was time to replace them.  Our maps are in the hallway on the way to the schoolroom.

Lastly, I am trying to keep all of their textbooks and copywork in one place that will not slide or fall over.  I got these plastic crates and put their name on each one.  All of their texts etc. are in there.  I'll let you know how that one works-I have high hopes!
